Daytona beach

Daytona Beach

Sun, sand and beer

After celebrating Chantal’s birthday in Jacksonville, the next day, we took off in the morning and headed to the notorious Daytona Beach where we spent our day relaxing on the sand and enjoying what Florida had to offer. Finally, sunshine, hot weather and salt water! We had a delicious lunch at the Ocean Deck and took a nap on the warm sand.

Hot sand simply meant relaxation

We knew that once we had stepped on the sand it would have been hard to walk around and explore the area. Hot sand simply meant relaxation. Nothing should disrupt our laziness at the beach except the call for a cold beer and Nacho cheese flavored tortillas chips. Therefore we checked few souvenir shops on our way to the beach and bought some small gifts to family and friends and we headed straight to the beach in shorts and flip flops.

The reluctant farewell

In the afternoon, with around an hour left to reach La Quinta Inn & Suite in Orlando, FL we said a reluctant farewell to our laid back day on the beach.
Our ride to Orlando was fairly easy and short. It simply felt good getting back on our rides after a well deserved day at the beach.

Here we go again…

It seemed to us that mother nature had gave us a break from rain to enjoy our day at the beach, but the view of those dark clouds forming in the skies ahead of us brought back that feeling of anxiousness…we really had enough of showers through the past rides from Houston to New Orleans, to Panama city, to Jacksonville and now to Orlando. What if it rained while we were in Orlando? What about those crazy rides at the Universal Studios, were we going to miss them because of the rain? What could have we done else? How were we to spend the remaining days of our journey? That’s not a nice way to finish a life adventure? All those questions popped up in our head. We were riding and expecting the worst. None of us spoke a word during the ride.

Silence is louder than words

The 600 plus songs of my motorcycle music playlist were extensively played. I browsed for specific rock singles to lift our spirit high during the ride and avoided looking at the shades of grey. Our communication that day was limited to signs. Chantal pointed at the dark clouds forming ahead of us and I nodded trying to hide my anxiety. Ronnie signaled to speed up and I gave him the sign to lead the way. From time to time we shared those anxious and disappointment smiles but never words. It all depended on the weatherman!

We reached the hotel that afternoon a bit wet from the On and Off drizzles that accompanied us during the last miles.
