Riding the free shuttle, Koh Tao

KOH SAMUI LITTLE SISTER ISLAND KHO TAO

Leaving Koh Samui Towards Koh Tao

After spending a laid-back morning at the beach while we had our breakfast, we had our bags packed and ready to leave Koh Samui towards Koh Tao which was our last stop for this trip. We got so attached to Koh Samui that we didn’t want to leave to another place. Although there were early morning one-hour direct trips to Koh Tao we decided to take the late morning three-hour high-speed catamaran trip that included an stop of 1 hour at Koh Phangan.

Deep Fried Chicken Legs for Lunch

At Koh Phangan we strolled along the beach until we reached a place packed with food carts and since it was almost noon we grabbed some deep-fried chicken legs and devoured them like primitive men and women. At the same time , we still had a bag full of fruits which we purchased from Koh Samui market the other day, so we consumed some of them.

Reaching Koh Tao

Around 13:00 we reached Koh Tao. After finding our way through the long check in line and identifying real taxis from those who were simply offering their service for money, we hopped into the back of a pickup that drove us until the Haadtien Beach Resort. From its eco-friendly reception to its wooden bungalows spread under the tall coconut trees, we realized that a one-night stay wouldn’t be close to clinch our thirst from such a beach paradise.

We intentionally had chosen this 5-star resort away from the buzzing city to enjoy an unrivaled privacy on Haad Tien beach commonly known as “Rocky Bay”. Although the resort was a bit far and accessible only via a rough dirt road but we couldn’t have selected a better place to spend our last day of absolute freedom before we started our journey back home.

PS: Earlier, while we were planning our trip we came across some worrisome articles about crimes and mafia related troubles with tourists especially on this island. But on the other hand, we couldn’t resist the urge to visit this piece of paradise. So, we decided to have a short but distinct experience away from trouble. So we limited our stay to one night.

Shortly after our arrival we were escorted to our villa which was surrounded by palm groves and offered a spacious private balcony. While we sat outside contemplating the landscape and the resort beautiful eco-friendly architecture while listening to the orchestra of birds, it felt as if we were in a “sanctuary”. Further ahead, we could see the pristine white beach and the dazzling blue seas from in between the tall palm tree trunks.

Exploring Koh Tao at Night

In the evening we took the resort’s free shuttle and we hit Sairee Beach, home of Koh Tao notorious nightlife. As I always mention, we are not party animals but we always enjoy sipping on some delicious cocktails or simply grabbing few beers while listening to some good music at the beach. As we walked midst of the crowded alleys we stumbled upon the “Barracuda Restaurant & Bar” which was already on our “Places to Eat” list. We waited until a table for two was free and we indulged ourselves in the best seafood platters ever. I would strongly recommend you try the “Thai Fusion” dish of pan fried barracuda fillet with local prawns served with garlic roast potatoes, buttered spinach and a creamy tomato and Thai basil sauce. Later that night we hopped from one bar to another trying to make the best of our short stay. We headed back to our pick-up point and when we arrived at our nest it was already past midnight. A warm shower was all we needed before we surrendered to sleep.
